Japanese auto manufacturer Mitsubishi Motors Corp. announced on Monday, July 8, it will be investing in the Indonesian transport network giant Go-Jek. The said deal is expected to give the Indonesian ride-hailing start-up a competitive edge over the Singapore-based Grab in the Southeast Asian region.
The said investment includes Gojek and three other companies under Mitsubishi. This includes Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Mitsubishi Corporation, Mitsubishi UFJ Lease & Finance.
“Go-Jek is proud to be partnering with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) and Mitsubishi Corporation. Both companies have a long-standing track records in delivering reliable and quality products, services, and technology to customers around the world,” said Andre Soelistyo, president of Go-Jek Group.
Just recently, the Indonesian ride-hailing startup has successfully expanded across three new regional markets, namely Vietnam, Singapore, and Thailand. Aside from these recent expansions, Go-jek has also expressed interest in providing its services to other Southeast Asian countries, such as the Philippines, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Cambodia.
In a press release, Mitsubishi Motors Corp chairman Osamu Masuko also expressed his delight on the said deal.

Bringing Mitsubishi Motors and Mitsubishi Corporation’s long and strong presence and brand power in Southeast Asia, as well as Go-Jek’s diversified and unique business potentials together, we foresee the creation of big synergies and innovation that boost the growth of the three parties,” commented Mr. Masuko.
“We believe that the accumulation of know-how of new mobility services that are rapidly spreading in the region and the opportunity to enter the market will contribute to the growth of the Southeast Asian market in the future,” he continued.
Although details of the said investment have not been disclosed, Chairman Masuko assured that the partnership will bring the companies “long and strong presence and brand power in Southeast Asia.” He also noted that Go-Jek’s “diversified and unique business potential” is sure to bring “big synergies and innovation that boost the growth of the three parties.”
